I think as a class, we pulled together and demonstrated the true definition of success. Our two big events were selling out of our 2015 calendar and a silent auction, set up during the run of New Dances. These two events help us in fundraising for our show that the senior class fully produces at the end of the year.
The class of 2015 had a photo shoot with Matthu Placek and we made a calendar to sell to family, friends and patrons that attended the New Dances performances. As a class, we decided to order 480 calendars to sell. When we received the calendars in the mail, we counted them to assure we had the correct number. Upon further inspection, we saw that there were white spots in some of the calendars that were distorting people’s faces. We found out that this sometimes happens in the printing process and they are called dust spots. We found these spots in about 90 calendars. Fortunately, the man who printed the calendars was very nice and agreed to reprint the number of calendars we found with dust spots in them and the remainder arrived two days after the last show of New Dances. The problem that we found in having to send these damaged calendars back was that we feared that the senior class would not be able to buy their personal calendars before leaving for winter break. Those who were in town longer, waited to buy their calendars until the second shipment arrived, so we could sell as many to the public as possible. Martin Alter has printed the calendar for the senior class for years now and we really enjoyed working with him this year.
