As the spring semester begins, I ask myself many question that concern what I have learned throughout my time here, whether I used it well, and what will happen after graduation. This would be the first time being outside of any kind of institution or frame, which is frightening and exciting all in one.
The Dance division is very good at teaching you things; things like Ballet, Modern, Dance history, Music, Anatomy, Lighting design and Stagecraft are all a part of the curriculum. Our profession and our study require a daily practice of 6 days a week, and usually with only brief breaks throughout the year. This discipline, like many other ones, takes years to develop and even then there is still so much left to explore. This constant research makes me realize that the more I learn every day, the more I understand that I know less. The beauty of this school, in my opinion, is that it makes the students ask questions, and then try and answer them on their own.
My own experience taught me that I will never stop learning in life. With or without an institution, I will keep researching those topics that I am drawn towards, practice my discipline and find new ways to approach old and new ideas. I may be at the end of my current journey, but I am far from being at the end of my studies. I will continue to be a student and I will keep learning from my own textbooks, and from the teachers I will choose throughout my life.
