Whoa did we hit off the year in full force!! The Senior Production Show is a project that encompasses many parts, and calls for participation and focus from the entire class. Coordinated by Risa Steinberg, the seniors hold the responsibility of choreographing, producing, and funding the show, which will open in April 2015. Bringing the show into fruition is quite a commitment and requires a vast array of fundraising activities. So far, we have engaged in several successful bake sales, are in the works of creating a calendar, designing a website, and preparing a silent auction. It is a huge learning experience across all spectrums, and highlights every skill that is imperative for an upcoming producer. In order to be thorough and grasp the fullness of the experience, we have been working on it from day 1 of the fall 2014 semester.
Senior Production’s curriculum is structured to bring the show to life, but as we continue to work on fundraising, we quickly realized that what we are dealing with involved more than just getting the production on it’s feet. I think this is what I appreciate most about it. As we complete these events, we are beginning to see all that can be learned through fundraising. For example, working on the calendar involved an ongoing conversation between our class and the photographer. These conversations cleared up a lot of ambiguity about the theme, and specified logistics that would be used to achieve our artistic visions. It was important that our words be clear and articulate, in order to avoid offending or disrespecting our peers. This lesson, and others such as budgeting, public speaking, active listening, professional communication, organizing proposals, and healthy debating are all factors that Risa did not make light of. I, for one, will be forever grateful for this. These will be golden tokens that will serve and prepare us in our budding careers.
I will say that I think we are in good hands so far! We are about halfway into the project, with much more information to be learned and discussed. Senior Production is a TASK, but enmeshed in all of this hard work lies big smiles, laughs, and a sense of belonging to a community. We are all working to achieve the same goal. It’s special - and I doubt we will have a similar experience anytime soon. We have already gathered a lot of knowledge about our classmates, and about ourselves as individuals. One can only wonder about the data that has yet to soak in. Excitement seeps out of my pores! Don't miss witnessing the fruits of our labor and come see the shows, April 24th-26th of 2015!
