WOW. And just like that, we the dancers of 2015 are finished with the first semester of our final year. It really has flown by. Thinking back, I had no idea what I was in for on the first day of senior year.
It’s been a semester filled with nerves, stress, sore muscles, and A LOT of planning. Slowly but surely all worries shifted to setting goals, being productive, and taking on responsibilities. What felt hectic at first has started to feel comfortable and manageable, making us very prepared for our futures. Personally, this first half of the year has made me learn a lot about myself not only as a dancer, but also as a growing adult. I am so proud when I reflect back on what my class has accomplished together in the past four years. It’s amazing to have 26 other classmates to share this journey with. I always look forward to sharing the stage with such a beautiful bunch of people, most specifically our annual New Dances concert.
This past weekend, the final curtain came down on New Dances: Edition 2014. Our class had the opportunity to work with Larry Keigwin, and together we all created ‘Exit Like An Animal’. It was an amazing process that all of us thoroughly enjoyed. As written in a review by Lauren Gallagher (!! link is below, maybe insert it here? !!), “Exit Like An Animal makes you want to do just that: run out of the theatre, and into the wild, and possibly into the club too.” There was no doubt the powerful piece left the audience with a restless energy every night.
We are in our last week of holiday break, and I am itching to get back into the studio and start rehearsals and process for Senior Production 2015. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a great show.
