The last semester back to school from well-deserved time with family, friends and pets, as well as from auditions around the world is a very exciting time for our class. Here is a general overview of the upcoming semester.
For the first two weeks each of us with the valuable presence of the Class of 2016 will venture into a new creation, both as a choreographer, dancer, producer, and collaborator. Afterwards everyone will be getting ready for our annual concert in the spring. Once that has been performed, we are going to be finishing up with Senior Production’s last and very important touches. And then just like that May 2015 will be here: last performances on the amazing stage of The Peter Jay Sharp Theatre and of course, graduation!!!

I remember being part of Senior Production 2014 and enjoying it so much that it turned out to be the favorite part of my third year. Living it from the other side this year is quite exciting and intriguing!! As one of the choreographers for Senior Production I am thrilled to work, collaborate, play and experience with my cast our curiosity as people, artists, movers and explorers. For this piece I will be working with seven dancers and Vivaldi’s four seasons. I have always had an interest in time as a constant entity that influences people’s lives. I will be challenging myself in creating a storyline that connects all the facades of the idea of time. Who knows where this idea will go and what it will eventually become. Luckily Spring Dance, which serves as a break from Senior Production, will be a digestive period of time to let bodies and minds freshen up and get ready for the premiere.
Along the artistic baking of the seven pieces, we will also keep finding ways to fundraise. I am sure coming up with another merchandise and organizing for a silent auction for the Spring Dance concert will be brought into discussion. Of course our bakers will be busy with the oven to feed hungry audience members of our workshops (that you should not miss!)
Halfway through the semester we will be performing two modern masterworks. Movement and shapes that we’ve learned on a regular basis in our Graham and Cunningham technique classes are now transferred into a repertory piece with a greater choreographic context. Juilliard Dance will perform Graham’s Dark Meadow and Cunningham’s BIPED from March 25th – 28th .
April will be a very busy month for our class. Besides refining the pieces and collaborating with lighting and costumes designers for Senior Production 2015 (April 24th-26th), each Senior will be rehearsing for Senior Showcase, the last show of the season and the last show ever for our class! Some people will be dancing repertory pieces, others will be involved in new creations: definitely a show not to miss on May 18th!
A lot is happening in the last few months so be in the look for news and updates about new merchandise and upcoming events!!
